The American Council for Polish Culture (ACPC) will hold its 69th annual convention in Toronto, Canada, on August 9-12, 2017, in the beautiful Old Mill Hotel. The theme of the convention is: Crossing Borders to Promote Polish Culture.

The ACPC is a national organization uniting like-minded groups and individuals in cities across the United States in promoting Polish culture, heritage and history, and intercultural understanding. Founded in 1948, the Council currently comprises some 21 affiliated organizations and many individual members located in various states and the District of Columbia.

Although the ACPC is based in the United States, it is seeking, in line with this year’s theme, kinship with similar organizations and individuals in Canada who wish to promote and keep alive cultural roots originating in Poland.  The ACPC last held its convention in Toronto in 1997.

The convention opening ceremonies on August 10 will include a keynote address by the Mayor of Mississauga, the Honorable Bonnie Crombie and Vice Consul Natalia Iwaszko from Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Toronto. The lunchtime speaker, Polish-Canadian author, Ms. Beata Golembiowska, will discuss her books on the Polish Aristocracy in Canada and Polish Theatre in Canada. The day will culminate with a concert by the winner of this year's ACPC Marcella Sembrich Vocal Competition, 16-year old Anna Wojcik, a soprano living in Mississauga. The concert will be hosted by the Consulate of the Republic of Poland. The public is invited to attend by making advance reservations, no walk-ins will be allowed. For more information, you may contact Dr. Jarosław Gołembiowski:, phone. or message: 773-988-3663 or Ms. Jackie Kołowski at 586-558-3624

On August 11, in addition to convention meetings, the ACPC delegates and guests will tour Toronto and visit landmarks associated with Polish-Canadian culture such as the Katyń Memorial and the Roncesvalles Avenue Polish neighborhood.

On August 12, the ACPC will conduct its annual elections and wrap up the convention’s business agenda. In the evening, an Awards Banquet will be held at the Old Mill Hotel, honoring individuals who made significant contribution to the organization and to the promotion of Polish culture in America. This year’s awardees are: Mr. Ray Okonski, Mr. Anthony Bajdek (the Distinguished Service Award), Dr. Jarosław Gołembiowski (Cultural Achievement Award), and Mrs. Florence Langridge (Founder’s Award).

Polish-themed entertainment will be provided for the enjoyment of all.  For more information convention events and activities, please go to:
